Perspectives on Taiwan’s Pathway to Net-Zero Emissions

For achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, countries worldwide are committed to setting ambitious carbon reduction targets. In 2022, the officially published report, “Taiwan’s Pathway Net-Zero Emissions in 2050”, sets out a comprehensive transition plan based on four fundamental strategies: energy, industrial, lifestyle, and social. This will likely entail an infrastructure transformation all sectors of economy, embracing renewable electricity, low-carbon fuels. While Taiwan government is rolling up its sleeves accelerate pace carbon-emission reduction, it risky set targets without considering full implications emission how be achieved. paper provides insights into Taiwan’s net-zero-emission from perspective current understanding decarbonization techniques urgently needed. Although many uncertainties outstanding questions exist our energy systems, required granular information for decision makers track progress has not been clearly identified, this points characteristics that have neglected guidance stakeholders—governments, businesses, investors, citizens—to work together coordinated tackle climate change.
